It’s been a long time coming, so John Mayer’s first ever watch partnership is actually on the way. Mayer, a well-known watch lover, has collaborated with HODINKEE and Casio G-SHOCK to bring the project to fruition, one that focuses on the impressive 6900 model.
The collaborative G-SHOCK Ref 6900 was designed by Mayer himself, taking influence from the Casiotone SK-5 keyboard that he played in his early years.
“When Casio approached me about the possibility of working together on a G-SHOCK, it actually timed out really well,” said Mayer. “I had already been pretty deep into wearing the ‘Mudmaster’ models, and something felt cosmically right about a G-SHOCK being the first watch collab I’ve ever done.”
“Casio keyboards came to mind as much as the watches did. Then I remembered how important the Casiotone SK-5 was in my life, and it got exciting really fast,” he added. “It’s the perfect bridge between my double life as a musician and watch enthusiast.”
The textured gray color of the watch case and band is a direct nod to the Casio keyboard, whilst the teal “G-SHOCK” at 12 o’clock and the yellow lettering across the bezel apply to the 1980s. From there the 6900 features the famous triple-graph face style of G-SHOCK, with a 53.2mm resin case and Japanese quartz movement. Functions range from a 24-hour clock, a stopwatch, a 24-hour countdown timer, a multi-functional alarm, a flash notification, and an EL backlight.
The limited edition Casio G-SHOCK Ref 6900 by John Mayer is currently available for $180 from shop.hodinkee.com, gshock.com, G-SHOCK Soho and a variety of G-SHOCK stores.
